Miltown Malbay is well known for the Willie Clancy Summer School a week-long event which takes place in July each year and celebrates the traditional music, dance and song attracting thousands of music enthusiasts from all over the world. If you're looking to stay in the house during this time, early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment! Traditional Irish Music plays an important part in this part of the country and many of the pubs have traditional music sessions all year long. Guests bringing their own instruments are regularly invited to join these sessions.
White Strand in Milltown Malbay
The sandy beaches in Spanish Point and White Strand offer plenty of possibilities for all kinds of water activities. Surfers find excellent conditions there and just off the coast with one of the most spectacular surfing spots in Ireland. A surfing school is located in Spanish Point in season and equipment can be rented. Divers still try to locate the remains of the six Spanish Armada ships which were lost off this coast in September 1588.
Dolmen near Miltown Malbay
An easier accessible remainder of the historic past is the Dolmen close to the road from Miltown to Ennis on the slopes of the local hill Slieve Callan. It is a very regular and characteristic cist, tapering eastward with two remaining side blocks and a large cover.

The central location in the West of Clare makes Miltown Malbay the ideal Place for sight-seeing. There are the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren region, the Ailwee & Doolin Caves, Bunratty Folk Park, the Loop Head Peninsula, well known for the spectacular coast line, the rare birds, the dolphins and whale watching. Boats leave from Carrigaholt and Kilrush Marina on Dolphin Watching tours. The town of Kilkee offers an outdoor activity centre for all kinds of water sports. Medieval banquets take place in Bunratty and Knappogue Castles.
